Hi, my name is Tina. I have a 10 year old son that has had problems in the past few years. they have done 2 mri's with contrast. Both his mri's came back posititive for something in the pituitary gland. You are the first person I have came across that has a child with this. The docs are watching his pituitary. He has blood work every 6 months to check his hormone levels etc. I have taken him to The Childrens Hospital in Houston for a second opinion. She told me that she thought the spot in his pituitary was possibly a shadow. The new endo we are seeing (for the past year) says the same thing. So far with the second mri it hasnt changed any at all with comparison to the first mri. They will repeat an mri each year. Or sooner if his lab work comes back different. They told me that his lab work would show different levels if the tumor starts to change. His story began with a routine exams (checkup). The doctor found he had pubic and underarm hair at an early age of 7. Thats when all the test and all started. The mri showed up something and it has been one test after another. First his thyroid was not funtioning right and they put him on Synthroid (very low dose) for one year. They took him off the synthroid after a year and retested his thryroid after 3 months of being without it and it is now funtioning correctly. So he is not classified as Hypothyroid anymore. They also done a mri of the adrenal gland at the same time they done the first mri of the pituitary. The mri came back fine. but since he has had other test done. And he has a condition called CAH ( congenital adrenal hyperplasia) but its not bad enough for them to medicate him for it. His Androgens are double what they should be for his age. The doctor told me if he had the full blown disorder that his androgens would be in the thousands. His bone age is also the age of a 13 year old. They also check this every 6 months. So unless his boneage advances more, they wont give him anything to stop his puberty. If his bone age does progress and he hits a huge growth spurt, then they could put him on growth hormone shots to slow it down so he can get a few more inches of adult height. I hope this this makes sense. So many things have happened over the past few years that it all runs together and is overwhelming. He has his blood work done next month to see if anything has changed. So i guess its just a wait and see thing. His doc believes that unless things change then we just watch it. (why fix it if its not broken). He is not having any problems. Just like a normal 10 year old boy. So unless something changes in his lab work and the other test they do, we will just continue to keep an eye one it . Please give me more information on your child if you can. It will be nice to have someone out there to talk to about things. Like I said, you are the first i have come across that has a child with any similar things. I read the post most all the time, I just havent posted in a while. Take care and prayer for everyone.
