I am a diabetic and immediately had a retinal check when diagnosed. I've had one every year since then. All have been normal. Diabetes for me is questionable now because I've lost 50 lbs in the last 4 years. I also have had hypertension for years and they see no damage from it. But something has to be causing these episodes. It really is very curious. My initial weight loss was from following the Carb Counting Diabetic Diet and I lost 30 lbs. I was doing great. Then out of nowhere I started feeling sick and found out about my tumor and ESS. I was sick for a year without GI problems. I then developed chronic nausea and am not able to eat normally. I'm much better now but last summer it was so bad I lost 20 lbs over the course of the summer. Though not as bad presently, I still can't eat normally. I have certain foods I can tolerate and that's what I eat. This has also been checked out by a colonoscopy and endoscopy and everything was normal. I've also been checked for celiac disease which was negative. I believe my GI problems are systemic in relationship to my pituitary / ESS. Due to my strange change from high blood sugars I now have to eat every 3-4 hours to keep my blood sugar up. My local endo is finally taking an interest in this as she asked me "are you sure you're a diabetic" because my numbers are never high. I've been keeping track of them for her, and I'm getting AM sugars of 83 and that's with eating something during the night. I've always had Field Vision Tests since I wear glasses this was always a standard part of my eye exam. They have always been normal. Lisa |
