Hi Chris,
My doctors looked back at pictures my family had and think the tumor started growing around the middle of my senior year in high school (17-18 yrs old). I got my class ring in my junior year, had to send it back to be enlarged twice & it was still too small to wear at graduation. My residual problems were mostly exhaustion. Mostly, I believe, from the radiation treatments I had. I also switched endos. 10 years ago, and feel much better. The new Dr. said I was under-replenished on my thyroid & testosterone. I had a lot of short term memory problems after the surgeries and radiation. I'm much better now, but have become famous for writing myself notes. I haven't had to have any corrective surgeries. I did have braces to correct my under bite. I've been able to maintain a pretty heavy workload. We opened our family business 3 years after I was able to return to work.(1987) I learned to be a pressman, and run many different machines. Now (17 years later) my job is more managerial, but I still run machines on occasion. I still have a tendancy to get tired. But am able to work 40+ hrs a week in a pretty demanding & stressful job. I even took flying lessons for a while. The FAA took 6 months to give me the OK to try. I had 14 hours of dual instruction. I did my own takeoffs & landings-not pretty ones, but they were my own! I stopped so I could use the money to buy a home closer to our business. Someday I might return to get my pilots license. I sometimes get a little numbness & tingling in my hands, but not so much it bothers me. The one piece of advice my parents got from my neurosurgeon was "He's not an invalid, don't make him into one." So they always let me do & try whatever I wanted to. Tomorrow I have to see a neurosurgeon about my shunt , It's bulging in my neck. Hopefully all will be OK.
