You are not alone. If you have not found the Pituitary Network, try that also, the director of that foundation has acromegaly and it is another good site for help.
I found out that there was no one recommended in the Pacific Northwest when I looked for a specialist back in 2000. Now OHSU has developed a pituitary center in Portland Oregon. I flew to the Skull Base Institute in LA and had my surgery with Shahinian, who operated on me at Cedars Sinai. He uses a totally endoscopic method to remove tumors. I have talked to many many of his patients over the years and they all rave about him. My tumor was over 2.2cm and he totally removed my tumor first try. That is the important thing....get a surgeon who has performed preferably over a thousand pituitary tumor removals. I was out of the hospital within 24 hours and went to the movies. This guy is a genius.
Ask questions, talk to folks who have been there, and you will find out....it pays to go to the best...you need an expert. An expert endo can do wonders for you....Even if you just visit them as needed and they work with your local doctor.
Good luck. Jean in Oregon |
