Typically non-functioning tumors are not treated surgically unless they are macroadenomas and are pressing against critical brain structures. You can research that yourself on www.pubmed.com or on published articles from the Endocrine Society.
 
I think you can see another endocrine expert and be tested for adult growth hormone deficiency. One thing you might want to do is get an independent opinion and not tell the doctor you went to University of Virginia. You just might say... I had this test and it was this... but could you check it again and play dumb. lol.
 
Growth hormone does not cause pitutiary tumors to grow according to current research, so I don't understand the surgery first suggestion.
