Hi, My friend and partner had his large pituitary tumour removed yesterday by Dr, Gentili at Toronto Western Hospital. The doctor says he "may have got 100% of it" [he is a very modest man and we expect he probably did get it all although we weren't expecting that because there was "sinus involvement"]. This was my friends 3rd operation - a transphenoidal and a crainiotomy a month apart 8 years ago by a neurosurgeon but not a pituitary specialist ["they didn't open him up enough"]. There was a lot of scar tissue - the original tumour was 5x3x3.5 cm - and more bleeding than they hoped for because of that. However my friend feels great [his head is clearer and so is his hearing!?] and is now eating his breakfast and wants me to bring extra batteries for his walkman! He will have a 2 night hospital stay and then I think he will begin living a new life. I thank everyone in here for all their words. This site and others have been a real comfort - what a wonderful difference the www has made! Ian is an artist and you can see his work at www.ianmcandrew.com thank god his sight is no longer in danger |
