I was 54 when I had my tumor removed in March of 2000. I chose Dr. Shahinian at the Skull Base Institue in Los Angeles who operates out of Cedars Sinai. My tumor was over 2.2cm and I chose Shahinian because I thought he had the best chance of removing the whole tumor the first time. He uses a totally endoscopic method to remove tumors through the right nostril. I left the hospital less than 24hours after coming out of surgery and went to the movies...I do not know how he did what he did and left me in such great shape: no swelling, no bruises, no stitches, no spinal tap, no packing in the nose...and I stayed comfortable on tylenol in less than 24 hours after surgery. He is amazing. I also recommend that you see an endo who specializes in pituitary patients...there are not many but they are worth finding. Also check out the pituitary network, the director has Acromegaly and they do a lot of publications about this disease.
