jmrir: I was told that I would be on bromo for my life too. I have been on (an off) bromocriptine for 20 years. I had a macroademo. It was extremely large (prolatin in the 1000's). Through just taking meds, my tumor is now "non existent" according to my neurosurgeon. My pituitary is damaged, but I am presently off bromo to see if I can stay at my prolactin level of 22. I am on Estrace and Prometrium. I just had another prolactin test...and will find out next week if my prolactin has stabilized. I am willing to be monitored monthly (with prolactin tests) while I am off the bromo, to make sure that there isn't any strange activity (tumor reoccurance). So to answer you question....you might not have to take it forever and it could go away like mine. I think it is definitely individual and you should never come off the meds unless closely monitored. My endo said that almost all tumors reoccur with the meds.....so it will be interesting to see how I fair. I will keep everyone posted as to my outcome....just remember THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE. :-) |
