Most doctors are reluctant to issue prednisone to patients- they feel that a patient just wants the 'energy boost' & that there is nothing significantly wrong with a patient. They feel that the patient simply wants a crutch. Prednisone is a kinda nasty drug & causes problems when used long term like kidney problems, joint problems, bone degredation etc- however, some people need to be on lifelong pred. because of tyheir problems. It's very tough for me to convinvingly describe how aweful I feel to the Docs- they think I'm just 'kind of sleepy' during the day. I tell them I'm very weak & they think I'm just exxagerating. I don'ty know how to stress to them that I'm not simply a 'little tired'. They don't beleive me when I say I'm practically housebound. I also have Crohn's disease & they think that part of my problem is due to that & malnutrition but it's not- not when I respond so well to the prednisone. People abuse prednisone (Think pro atheletes) because of the 'super humjan streangth' it gives you, and that is why Docs are reluctant to issue long term use to patients They think I want it just because I want to get a boost- it's true- I want the boost back up to at least 60-70% of my former strength. The problem is that I don't 'look ill' on the outside & so the Docs can't see that inside I'm weak and shaky all the time. They aren't ill themselves & so describing how you feel to them isn't taken seriously- they just can't relate. I just wish they could walk in my shoes for just a week so that they'd understand. If they ever had this condition- you know full well they'd be getting the exact help they need. |
