I have seen the doctor you refer to in Atlanta in the past. It didn't go very well. I now have an appointment to see Dr. Ludlam at Oregon Health and Science University. It's a long way to travel, but everyone says he's the best. He recognizes cyclical cushings which is what I believe that I have. Most doctors don't even think there is such a thing as cyclical. My IGF-1 is low and I have had one low free T4. Out of four UFC's, three were high. Not off the chart high, but elevated none the less. I think the highest one was 150 with a top end range of 50. That's still not three times high and that's what they like to see before making a diagnosis. While at OHSU they will do a lot of test in a week. I will have a dynamic MRI, CT of adrenals, 24 hr. UFC's, CRH/dex test, midnight blood draws, salivary cortisols, etc. They do so much blood work that they will put in a PICC line when I arrive on that Monday. Now all I can do is pray that I will be in a high phase during that week. Even if I'm not, Dr. Ludlam will order 6 or so more weeks of UFC's once I return home. According to what others have told me, he doesn't give up. If he truly thinks a person has cushings, he will not give up! I like that because I have been given up on some many times in the past. I keep telling them that something is not right in my body but they won't listen. A person doesn't go from running 2 miles a day and working out with weights to gaining 80 lbs. in 6 - 8 months and barely being able to walk up a flight of steps. It's just not right! I didn't do this to myself. Something has gone terribly wrong in my body. There are days that I just want to shout it from the roof tops but still no one listens. This is so frustrating but I pray that my frustration will soon be over!!! |
