I was told to avoid flying when I was first diagnosed. I used to fly somewhat frequently coast-to-coast and I have not flown since I was diagnosed in 2002. My case may be very different, however. I first had symptoms when I was living in Colorado on a mountain at a high elevation. I had my first migraine ever and lost my vision, so it is thought that the higher elevation caused the tumor to "wake-up." I was told that I have a strong possibility of pituitary apoplexy at high elevations. I flew from TN to Portland, OR in 2000 (pre-diagnosis) and I was sick for 3 days with a horrible migraine, nausea, vomitting, loss of vision, etc. I was told that was due to the air pressure when I was flying. I flew several more times after that and always became sick with migraine, weakness, nausea, etc. I know other patients fly without any problems. It all depends on your particular case. Have you ever had any problems with high altitudes? Take care. Meri |
