Hello, I am new to this message board, but I would very much like to get some feedback on the pituatary program at UCSF. I had my 1st surgery done at Stanford. And, I was not happy at all with what the neurosurgery and endo. team Before that surgery, I failed to do enough homework to realize that Stanford does not have enough experience with pituatary tumors. Anyway, now, I am taking my case up to UCSF with Dr. Kunwar. He seems amazingly thorough, and very sure of himself. He does not come across as arrogant or proud though, a very gentle and humble doctor, it seems. He is proposing that I do 2nd surgery, whereby he can remove 98, if not 100% of residual tumor. Part of the tumor appears to have invaded into cavernous sinus area. But, he feels he can resect around this area as well. I am just a bit nervous, fearing that I might be going the other extreme. (The 1st experience was that Stanford neurosurgeon cut very little, and did not separate tumor from pituatary, and thus making radiation risky.) Any reference / past-experience about Dr. Kunwar and UCSF would be *really* appreciated ! |
