AngieNewell1 Your symptoms are definitely that of a Pituitary tumors. You didn't mention irregular periods and/or no periods. But maybe you don't have that problem. They aren't one-size-fits-all. FYI the Pituitary is located near where the two optic nerves cross to go to the back of the brain......right eye's optic nerve goes to left, and left goes to right. So no matter how small they can hit the optic nerve causing visual loss and pain. With treatment surgery and/or meds they can reduce the size of the tumor and loss vision can be regained. I was diagnosed when I was 28, but had symptoms starting at birth. I did not have headaches, so again we may have the same thing, but it affects use differently. Mine was a microadoema, teenie, but still when they CAT scan, they only could see an indentation in the Optic nerve. I had centeral vision loss and some perripherial loss too (which is more common)...aka tunnel vision. Whats with your doctor??? What kind of doctor are you seeing. I went to 5 Gynecologist that did test that showed it, but never referred me or even told me. I went to one Endocrinologist and taking the same tests, found it and told me. I had surgery, but mine was small enough that it could've been treated with medicine. Surgery was painless to me, but difficult due to size area and surroundings. So some of the tumor was left behind and I had to go on the medicine anyway. I do not agree completely with one of the other posters. Pituitary tumors for the most part are slow growing. Super rarely are they cancerous. So I don't agree with having MRIs so frequently. I had my surgery 23yrs ago and if the doctors had their way, I would have an MRI every year. I have only had 3 in my life. My feeling is that with a Prolactinoma and with a Prolactin count that is less then what it was at surgery there is not a need. If suddenly the count increases, then I would have an MRI. Remember that half of Pit tumors are in cadavers. In other words the person lived their whole life with one and either the symptoms were passed off as other things or they didn't have symptoms. A very good place to check out is the Pituitary Network Assn. http://www.pituitary.com they have tons of research and resources including listings of specialist. |
