Chris , Welcome to the adventure. Try googling "neurosurgery pituitary arizona" or "pituitary clinic arizona". and see what comes up. You definitiely want a specialist. Here is a link to the consensus statement on the treatment of acromegaly (high IGF-1). Experience really makes a difference in the success of surgery for pituitary tumors. You want to find someone who has not only done alot of these surgeries but is also actively involved in doing surgeries currently. Acromegaly is a vary rare disorder so you will probably need to find a pituitary center because you need a team approach - Endocrinoloist, neurosurgeon, nurse, etc. I googled it and it looks like there may be several centers in the Southwest. It is definitely worth traveling. I am followed by a local endocrinologist but travel to a pituitary center 2.5 hours from my home every few months. The local endocrinologist follows through with the recommendations from the center. |
