I wish I could help you with your decision but I am in a similar situation.
Transspenoidal surgery in 2004 for acromegaly. IGF-1 levels halved but not
normal. I did not tolerate Sandostatin nor did it completely control my IGF-1
levels. I now have tumor regrowth in the right cavernous sinus. The tumor is
impinging on the cranial nerves that run through the area causing decreased
sensation on the right side of my face and double vision and is up against the
carotid artery. I will be scheduled for cyberknife within the next week. I was
also told that hypopituitarism is no big deal "just a couple of pills". Thank
you hunus for your input - now if only the doctors would listen to that.
Luckily, the tumor is located away from the pituitary gland itself and there is
rapid radiation fall off so I am being told that there is a good chance that
the pituitary gland would not be damaged by the radiation. I really have no
choice at this point as the residual tumor is in an area that is inoperable and
if allowed to continue to grow will cause increased double vision and
difficulty with sensation and function on the right side of my face. Good Luck.
