I've yet to have any surgery but I too have the memory loss as well as sudden confusion, inability to comprehend what is being said and fear like I am forgetting something important. Can't tell you how many times a week I run back into the house after we are all buckled in the van to leave just to re-check the stove or the locks on the back door. It almost becomes obsessive some days. These things have just begun over the last six months or so. Very frustrating but the calendars are a huge help and I also write everything down as I think of important things. I leave scrap paper and notebooks laying around the house. Hoping this will go away after the doctors find a way to help me. God Bless.
