Course, the members can add words as they see fit - Sorry you are agitated today Willard. Try to do something to counteract agitated... it often helps me. Letsee here... opposite of agitated is...peaceful. I've been thinking about going on a retreat. Has anyone done that before? Polycystic Ovarian Disease can be difficult to nail down. Some docs say that you have to have the "ring of pearls" cyst image on the ovaries that can be seen with an ultrasound, coupled with irregular and absent periods, infertility, weight gain, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and male-pattern hair loss. Oftentimes the LH and FSH ratios are off more than 3 to 1, and androgens (DHEA, Testosterone) are elevated. Unfortunately, this can cause abnormal hair growth on the face etc.. The main concerns of patients who have PCOS are body changes (hair excess, obesity) and infertility. There is a risk in patients with endometrial hyperplasia and even endometrial cancer for those who do not ovulate but have irregular and heavy menstrual bleeding problems. I know when I was being worked up for it many years ago, my doctor had me chart my basal body temperature to see if I was ovulating. I was, so with that information and additional labs, PCOS in my case was ruled out. If you like to dig into the techinical side of the disease with treatments, I found a pretty good site here: http://www.wdxcyber.com/dxinf001.htm The Polycystic Ovarian Association is a great resource if you would like to find out more about it. http://www.pcosupport.org/ I remember when I was undergoing testing for it a few years ago, I found the site and organization to be really helpful. There is alot of information about PCOS and Pituitary Disease occuring in the same female patient too. What is important is for your doctor to do the legwork with labs and clinical evaluation to identify and treat the primary endocrine issues. Hope this helps.
