Hi, Betsy, My doubled dosage surprised me, too, so I re-read the Rx and the
accompanying letter to be sure. Yep, he's upping in, apparently becasue the
shrinkage wasn't going gast enough. In my first three months on Cabergoline,
my prolactin levels went from 12,840 to 75 and shrank to 1/3 if the original
size. A few months later the bad hormone had inched up to 90, and the
neurosurgeon and his tech disagreed over whether there was any shrinkage. This
time the endocrinologist said I'd dropped to 62, maybe ending their speculation
over any need for surgery. A few weeks later he mailed me the latest results,
along with the prescription for 2 mg. twice a week. I'm beginning to be
concerned about the probability of heart damage. When we start Dostinex / Cab,
we hear advisories that it has been found to cause problems with heart valves.
I'm starting to take seriously the sites like Dangerous Medication.com,
although I realize these are run by "ambulance chaser" attorneys eager to make
a buck. This one reports: Two studies were reported January 4th 2006 in the
New England Journal Of Medicine. One study, by Italian researchers, found that
roughly one-fourth of Parkinson's patients taking pergolide or cabergoline,
sold as Permax, Dostinex and other brands, had moderate to severe heart valve
problems. A second study, by German doctors, found that users of either drug
were five to seven times more likely to have leaky heart valves than those on
other types of Parkinson's medications. ...All such drugs should be used "with
caution," the statement says. Cabergoline is approved in the U.S. for treating
a hormone problem, excessive prolactin in the blood, but not Parkinson's. Oh,
I found out why those bodybuilders use Cabergoline -- when they overuse
testosterone and synthetic steroids, certain parts of the body (ahem!) begin to
shrink, and the males tend to grow breasts like females! Willard
