Hi,
Just for clarity, the version requirement is something that comes from
libtool itself. Once you start with one version it'll then self impose a
version requirement and will simply refuse to downgrade.

The reason for picking 2.2.6 was that ltdl from prior versions is badly
broken on OSX. Those bugs were fixed in 2.2.6.
