oops... re-read Stephen's earlier message, where he said basically, "no,
[i.manifest] isnt particularly very useful"

Still like to hear more on how IPS is going to "solve" this problem.
Disclaimer: I don't read *every* email on this list: i try to just read
stuff based on whether the subject line looks interesting/relevant to me.
That being said, it seems like I've found a semi-answer to my questions
about, [how are actions going to solve all the 'script' problems, yet still
give a full set of capabilities to packagers?]
And why there isnt any documentation on it. in the subject thread of,
"Can IPS support preinstall script?"
Bart writes,
"Quite honestly, we're still working on figuring this out."
---------------------------
This is what, quite frankly, disturbs me, and why I am reacting as strongly
as I am, in multiple areas:
Because it seems like you folks DONT have everything fully planned out and
designed... yet are acting like you do.
You are adamant about "custom scripts WILL go away", and various other
things. That the current plans are "The One True Way", and everyone will be
forced into using them... when they havent even been fully proven to cover
all needs.
If all this stuff was presented more along the lines of,
"we THINK we have a better solution... here's what it currently looks
like... still work in progress... IF it works out, we'll be able to have a
win-win by doing away with the old stuff"...
Then it wouldnt be as big of a deal.
Instead, though, it seems like there is more of an attitude of, "We know
what's best for you [even though we dont have a completed design, and dont
even know that our design will work 100%].
This is what WE want to work on, so blow everything else.
[Resistance is futile, you will be IPS'd]".
As a customer, being faced with that, is both frustrating, and insulting.
