  Although I appreciate everyone's enthusiam, I must make clear that the
  *only* intermediate compatibility guarantee is that one can, via some
  documented procedure, upgrade from one distro release to the next (DP1
  -> DP2, DP2 -> 2008.05, etc.).  

  Outside of that constraint, I reserve the right to break interfaces
  arbitrarily (in the hopes of making them better).  An investment in a
  full-fledged alternate client implementation, or an application on top
  of such an implementation, may prove costly.
