Preferrences section when it is written?

I have also changed the gui/Makefile to follow the Help File
pattern Dan introduced and avoid the Gui make being noisy again
which changeset 866:1768eb95fd29 caused. As per the published
guidelines I can rerun make and make install without any
additional install output apart from the tree traversal.
Follows on from Dan's fix for: 6303 gui and UM makefiles need help
