do you really?
or do you just need a "complete/not complete" status?

(yes, for debug purposes, some kind of verbose check would be nice. but as far as official api, I dont think you'd need to get all gorey detail about it)


and which can
handle dependencies -- something SMF already has, so this would be code
duplication, to a point.

What do the current IPS "assembly" type SMF-FMRI things look like at the moment?
If they're all over the map, or on a per-package-name basis.. I think it would be nicer/cleaner to consolidate them under some kind of IPS/pkg basename standard.
