Yep, that's also future work. I believe that will work (or not work)
as well as it does now. I'm not sure that it's even the layouts
business to know the file type, but I could be convinced otherwise.
Let me clarify just a bit. I highly doubt that the layouts have any
reason to know the compression scheme used for a file. The file manager,
however, might well keep track of that information, just as I envision
it being the locus of information should we decide to do a time based or
size based cache.
