That's the approach I've taken - I've removed the SUNWipkg-gui and the SUNWipkg-gui-l10n package, the machine is now downloading 800+ Mb of new bits and I'll know if it has worked tomorrow.
And in my initial report I quite clearly said that I had searched the lists and the release notes and found nothing. If as many people as you say have hit the issue as you say, why isn't it called out in the release notes?
