IMHO both statements are incorrect. The division between main and contrib is superficial. It's used during the development process (which means that what is in there is unsupported, whatever definition you take). I have the feeling that it's a more or less technical division, since we're not able to generate hdlists for one large media. This same reason is being used to advocate splitting main and contrib up into more media. Having said that it's something of the development process, and that this boundary mostly is translated to the produces. That is, only the regular distribution, not other products corporate, etc. IMHO there are better ways to make the choice on which packages goes where in the eventual product, and not frustrate development by these artificial, meaningless boundaries. With regards to the media in PLF (free / non-free), that's a whole different story. The boundary there isn't artificial. It's actually based on something. To support that the 2nd statement is incorrect too: - - some packages in main are buggy and unmaintained. - - some packages in contrib are way-better than some in main. You just can't say that because a package is in main that it's better, less buggy or even "supported" (whatever definition you take for the word supported). regards, Stefan -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mandriva - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFEeUgkP2I1mFDTZ8URAnGnAJ9Y9sXJ3ujOHa8EBGFjqiRzeS+MZACgjGV+ q97jksbGb3TE+NlvgOiBpiY= =b5ia -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
