You also need to run some mythtv executable to populate the database
before things will work. It might be mythtv-setup, I forget. This should
be added to the instructions. Try a fresh install up to the point where
the backend starts and the frontend starts without complaining. I know
there are one or two more steps.

Is the problem that more than one database is supported? I always
thought there should be some distro policy. Maybe you set your preferred
database somewhere, then any databases could be created for you, with a
random password, say.

It's very strange that all rpm packages are meant to be usable out of
the box except for ones that use databases. To me, databases
installation should also be automated. But, I guess now this is getting
off the topic of mythtv, sorry.

Another example is that I think you had to run XFdrake to setup X before
it was useable, but maybe this is fixed now. At least in Debian-based
systems the default seemed to be to configure automatically.
