Gladly. I don't think a change in versions would impact the benches a
lot if you have, say, 32-bit Cooker and 64-bit 2008 Spring (or
vice-versa) considering the softwares considered.

The way I do benches is selecting a few clips (anime, slow moving
movies, fast moving movies) and include a few scene changes in the
sample. I then crop whatever black borders there are (using Avidemux)
and start a compression with single pass quality based, Q=3, Turbo mode,
use chroma (use "cartoon" mode on cartoon clip), GMC, 4MV, 2 b-frames,
Trellis, MPEG matrix (except cartoon: custom), and a thousand frames.
Saving the project, I then swap the libxvidcore4.so.1 file and restart
Avidemux (careful: if you don't, Avidemux keeps the version present at
load time, even if the file is gone). If you know how to use the CLI
version of Avidemux, you can use the "time" command to time the
conversion precisely.
