I just installed it - it still doesn't output any lirc message from
the command line, but I'm not in front of the machine so I'm using an
SSH connection and mplayer complains about not finding any video
screen to output to. It may be preventing the Lirc part to load, so
I'll try that tonight directly from the console.
I finally understood why Lirc didn't work with mplayer: the lirc modules
weren't loaded properly (lirc-kernel package wasn't installed - for some
reason, although the rest of the lirc packages were installed).
So mplayer still doesn't output any lirc-related message in the console
- I don't know why - but it registers ok as a Lirc client
(/var/log/messages shows mplayer registering as such) and if lirc
modules are loaded, everything works fine. QED.
Anyway, thanks for the kind help, and sorry for the noise for a somewhat
off-topic problem.
Alex
