Never mind and sorry for the noise.  I generated the conflict (which is only
local to my own computer) myself because I forgot to delete a local change you
asked me to make for a previous test before bringing in all your changes.
The cure was simple; delete my local copy of cairo.c and svn update again
to get exactly the source code you also have on your computer.

After a build, install, and installed examples build, I tried "./x08c -dev
pngcairo -o test.png -fam" and the results looked really sharp (aside from
the 3D character problems I mentioned before).
