As of commit f2a8918 I have finished propagating Phil's new plmap* API and his illustration of that API with the Exmoor contour map page in C and C++ example 19 to Lua, Python, Octave, and Java. This extra page is really a nice demonstration of the new API, and I am looking forward to seeing these exact results propagated for all other languages.
I plan some further changes to C example 8 which I will take responsibility for propagating to C++, Lua, Python, Octave, and Java. One of those changes is to move to the sombrero function (which looks much nicer) as the default and the Rosenbrock function as the option. This minor change was discussed on list with Andrew some time ago, but I forgot to do it at the time. Furthermore, once I made that local change to plot an absolutely symmetric function, I noticed bugs in the base contouring for the plsurf3dl case and also a slight asymmetry issue (probably off-by-one bugs) in how the permitted index ranges in x and y were defined. It is going to take me a while to sort all of that out so I suggest the rest of you temporarily hold off on propagating this example and instead concentrate on propagating example 19 which has been completely finalized.
