Yes, in the absence of any free "native" Win32 apps, that's probably the best option. I already have Cygwin, so it's just a matter of getting xfig installed (which, for various reasons of dubious validity, is not quite as simple as it ought to be :-) I'm sure it can be done. >> I would rather avoid all of that bloat >> and build in png support utilising only png and zlib libraries (which I >> already have) if possible. > > There is only the gd driver, but this driver needs libgd - the gd driver > is deprecated and the output quality is not compareable to pngcairo. > I was just looking at the gd driver (as I already have a static libgd, too) and wondering how I might get it to build ... but if that driver is not up to the standard of pngcairo, then I'll forget about that and go with pngcairo instead. I was hoping to be able to include the png capability using static libs only, but that's starting to look a bit unrealistic. Ultimately, I would like to be able to provide a Perl/PDL binary that provides good plplot support - and the production of such a binary is simplified if dynamic libs are not involved. It's looking to me, however, that it will require far too much work to achieve the desired plplot functionality using static libs - and that I should just go with the dll's.
