Hi, I'm new to the list. I'm looking into ways to improve reading Big5 Chinese on plucker. From the archive Alexander R. Pruss wrote on 6-July that he needs a unicode pdb to test it out. I have uploaded some of them to my web site.
pdb in Chinese Big5, 824 bytes http://home.graffiti.net/kenlo/SunTzuArtofWar.pdb html in Chinese Big5, 1048 bytes http://home.graffiti.net/kenlo/SunTzuArtofWarinChinese.htm pdb in unicode, 964 bytes http://home.graffiti.net/kenlo/uSunTzu.pdb html in unicode, 1198 bytes http://home.graffiti.net/kenlo/uSunTzu.htm I've tried them. Unicode pdb doesn't work. First of all there is no unicode font on my Clie NZ90. Judging from how it looks when opened I believe plucker can't even recongize it as a unicode file (it has the character yp at the beginning). Big5 Chinese pdb is OK to a certain extent because I have a Chinese OS installed (available from http://www.waterworld.com.hk/). But I think plucker has a problem in calculating the font width. There is always about 2 Chinese characters off screen at the right hand side. Also hyperlinks do not function at the last 1 or 2 characters. Many asian readers like to read docs vertically from right to left. I've seen a nice Japanese RubyReader but that's for WinCE only. I wonder if it is difficult to recode plucker this way. My only coding experience on PalmOS is Java MIDP. Finally I don't think plucker needs a ChineseOS, though I've purchased one. If it can't handle fonts may be adding fontbucket to it can do. The concept is like Netscape dosen't need a JapaneseOS to display Japanese characters. -- _______________________________________________ Get your free email from http://www.graffiti.net Powered by Outblaze _______________________________________________ plucker-dev mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.rubberchicken.org/mailman/listinfo/plucker-dev
