I have to wonder if they really are. Palm getting a perpetual license
to Garnet from Access Palmsource indicates they see a place for it in
the future, and the only device thus far with Palm's Linux version
under the hood is the rather underwhelming Foleo.

I'd *like* to see Palm move to an embedded Linux kernel with a Garnet
based compatibility layer. In fact, that's what Access Palmsource's
ALP was supposed to be, but with Cobalt rather than Garnet on top. I
note Palm passed on it in favor of a home grown solution. No
surprise, as little of Cobalt seems to survive in it, and
compatibility with existing apps is anyone's guess.

I was also amused at Palm's pious pronouncements in their recent
Investor Day ceremonies that they would not license their embedded
Linux solution to others. That would only be significant if anyone
*wanted* to license it, and I haven't heard of any interest.
