Or those who figure out the scheme and forge packets with a fake
source address.

Remember, the content providers are only required to "prevent"
anyone but AvantGo users from getting to the content (it's in their
licensing with AvantGo), but that doesn't stop people from getting past it.
Some use UserAgent, some use source IP, some use Referer, and some don't use
anything. In many cases, it's trivial, and you can still publically access
the content, but repeated attempts to do so can (and will) annoy and
irritate the content providers, causing them to lock it down even more.

My suggestion, which has worked in many cases before, just compose a
simple, nicely-worded email explaining what you would like to do with their
content, and what client you use, and why, and ask if they can create a new
PDA-sized area that suits your needs. Make sure to mention that you are a
user of their other services, or mention why you like their content or their
site layout or something. Appeal to their "soft" side. This works quite
well, in fact. When they realize that by embracing us, they are extending
their readership, at a very low penalty to their bandwidth and overall costs
(compared to the exhorbitantly prohibitive costs of using AvantGo, who fines
content providers for distributing their OWN content!!), they tend to agree,
and will help us. Just be nice.

There are actually quite a few in the UK:

        http://www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/avantgo/
        http://news.bbc.co.uk/text_only.htm
        http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/static/avantgo/default.htm
        http://www.businessam.co.uk/Avantgo
        http://avantgo.pocketdoctor.co.uk/
        http://avantgo.itn.co.uk/
        http://www.chopstix.co.uk/avantgo/cookie.html
        http://www.ispreview.co.uk/avantgo.shtml
        http://www.pdapro.co.uk/pda/
        http://www.fool.co.uk/partners/avantgo/index.htm

Not all of them are "News", but those are the ones I had matching
"*co.uk" here in my collection.

> There is also BBC news at http://news.bbc.co.uk/low/english/pda/

I prefer http://news.bbc.co.uk/text_only.htm, because it has nice
pluckable images (funny that it still has 'text_only' in the URI, it isn't
text only).

        Hope that helps.
