I have about 650 sites now in my local database here, which I will
be making mostly-online soon through my.plkr.org, available to any and all
users (who can log in, of course). I'd say that since the beginning of
collection, probably 10-20% are now going to be moved or dead, but that's
still quite a bit to play with.
The reason I can't just post them to the list directly or to the web
for public download is that I would be putting content providers in
violation with their exiting (restrictive) AvantGo agreements, and that
would not put them on our site for future content partnerships. We want to
help them, not anger them.
The other thing to be done first, is educate the content providers.
The content belongs to *THEM*, not AvantGo. If they put up a site called
http://my.domain.com/~AvantGo/ or http://www.domain.com/ag/ or whatever,
targeted to AvantGo users, publishing this may put them in violation, but
this does not stop them from doing:
cd /webroot
ln -s AvantGo pda
Then we can (with their permission) begin plucking
http://www.domain.com/pda instead, which does not put them in violation with
their AvantGo agreements.
It's happening slowly, I want to make sure I get all the bits and
pieces of login, secure authentication, database creation, setup,
scheduling, and content delivery down first, before I make anything public.
I'm also typing this email from Grenada, and will be here on
vacation for the next 9 days, so my responsiveness may be slow.
