You are right. Apparently according to what people sent back, it was indeed a registry 
flag.

In the precard days, to install something it was (If the user's magic number was say 
6666):
Install6666=1

And in the card days it is:
Install6666=1      (Just looks in normal install directory)
Install6666=5      (Look in the card install directory as well as the normal 
directory. Why 
they picked 5 I don't know. The 5 is the same for both card install alone and 
card+normal 
install)

So it is seems pretty straightforward to do. This just conjecture, though. But it 
should be not 
a problem to add at a later date, once the outstanding issues are addressed.
