Hi,

I just released JPluck 0.9 beta 5.

- Improved image handling. Images are now converted right after they have
been downloaded, reducing memory usage greatly. I've also made preparations
to support image slicing to overcome the 60K limitation. Hopefully we can
settle on a specification for composite images soon.
- Added two options to the Binder utility: the option to log messages to a
file and the option to specify the document category.
- Minor UI clean-ups.

There will most likely be one more 0.9 beta. My to-do list is getting
smaller and smaller. After 0.9 final, JPluck will go in hibernation for the
Spring and the Summer. Only urgent bugs and minor issues will be fixed
during that time.

The remaining to-do items for beta 6:

- Better support for handling different character encodings, particularly
input of UTF-8 and encodings for Cyrillic languages (CP1252, KOI8-R,
ISO-8859-2) and output to PalmLatin or CP1252.
- Binder integration with the HotSync conduit.
- Composite image support. (If an official specification is available at
that time.)

Related news: Apple released JDK 1.4.1 final earlier this week. It still has
problems showing the JPluck X splash screen so on Mac OS X the splash screen
is not shown at all. From what I've heard most UI issues are now resolved.

Regards
-Laurens
