This is probably a Windows problem rather than a JPluck X problem,
but just in case someone else has run across it:

I'm using Windows 98. I have 2.1.6b of JPluck X running on it. For
a couple of weeks, it worked fine.

Now when I bring up the application, it draws a frame but does not fill
it in -- I just see an empty box, with "main-jpluck.jxl - JPluck X" on
the title bar, and a rectangle of the off-white JPluck X background
color.

If I move my mouse over the main menu line, the "File / Document /
Help" items appear. And so do the icons underneath. Clicking on the
individual document lines below that makes them appear (mousing over
them is not sufficient).

I've reinstalled the application, and the newest JRE. Ideas,
suggestions, declarations of pity?

Have you tried to use CRON to schedule any of the conversions? There is a know bug that for some reason the author did not fix (and yes I sent a patch as well as instructions some version back) that if the CRON is invalid, the JXL will not load properly and the display will exhibit the symptoms you describe. Basically, an exception is being thrown by the CRON method and not properly caught. I will ping the author and see if he will fix it this time (of coarse, this may not be YOUR problem).

Just wave the mouse over the screen until it is as visible as you can get it and look for an entry that has the DUE column blank. Fix that entry (which will be tricky because you don't know it is bad).
