I have 57 youtube videos that were supposed to be part of a PHP
Learning channel. I received a very low response. Seems those who
what to learn PHP are adverse to leaning how to setup VirtuualBox to
create a LAMP testing environment. So I have changed course.

Thanks Keith, you're the goto guy when it comes to youtube videos.

Thanks, I don't know about that. I struggle just like everyone else.

Your findings about folks not wanting to do a lot of work precisely
matches Sy's observations in the GoLUG meeting. For my videos, all
they'll need is an editor plus once in a while a question to Google's
LLM or ChatGPT, and thanks to your suggestion, I'll make sure to keep it
that way.

Yeah, I do not understand. For me i think every PHP developer needs to know how to create test VM using Proxmox or VirtualBox

My setup consists of Win10 (I know it is expired) VirtualBox, PuTTY,
VSCode, Camtasia, and Canva. My desktop is Kubuntu to I can shell
into the virtual hosts on VirtualBox. I use the win and Linux host
files to configure the virtual hosts with a private domain ie *.local

Win11 is so invasive I would never use it, and as you mention, Win10 is
deprecated and unsupported except if you jump through hoops, so I can't
use Windows and can't afford Mac. That leaves Linux and BSD.

Your info about Camtasia is very helpful. It's proprietary software so
I can't use it,

I've been wondering if it can run on Wine. Asked chat and gave me the config. It was $200 when I bought it 5 or 6 years ago. I bought it because it is simple. I might try wine

but after 5 minutes of reading about it I knew enough
to web search free software alternatives, including OBS and SSR, both
of which are available on Void Linux and both of which is now installed
on my computer. I managed to use SSR (SimpleScreenRecorder) to make a
no-audio video of a screen session. I'll need to do A LOT more research
to determine whether SSR is the right tool for me: In spite of its name
it's not simple.

As far as Canva is concerned, I don't want to use Software As a Service
(SAS) if I can avoid it, and truth be told I think Inkscape fulfills
most of my needs for things that aren't screenshots or stuff from my
webcam.

I think Canva has a video editor that might meet our needs.

Eventually I would like to dump Win10.

ASAP. It's insecure now, and truth be told Windows was *never* as good
at Linux for most non-gaming activity.

I've done some research on
replacing Camtasia with something Linux. Kdenlive is highly rated
however it does not do screen capture.

One man's opinion, to be taken with a grain of salt. I kicked all KDE
applications and libraries off my system because of its massively
entangled complexificationism, so I can't use Kdenlive. However, you'll
find many very smart and productive people who disagree with me, so
take my anecdote for just what it is: A single data point.

What did I pivot to? Seems there is an affordability crisis. I can
attest it is true in my household. We had extra 4 years ago. Now we
are barely making it. I have decides to revive my PHP freelance
business.

Good. All you GoLUGgers, if your company needs PHP done right and done
promptly, Keith Smith is your goto guy. I'll tell you something else
I'd use Keith for, if my business had need for tough web application to
be done in Java, React, Node, Vue, etc: A quick temporary PHP
application to satisfy current customer needs while my team does the
work to develop our dream application. I actually did this once with a
3 day Perl program so their Java guys could take their whole 6 months
to develop theirs, and within days, the customer feedback from my
application proved vital to the Java guys and they told me that
feedback steered them away from making a mistake.

Your Very, Very, Very kind. Since I live by the lead and die by the lead I thought I would support that niche - custom contact forms and custom Customer Relations Management systems.

I do not know much about your pursuits, Steve, however you will
probably see a boost in traffic and conversions if you start using
YouTube. YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine, behind Google. And
did I mention Google likes websites that have embedded YouTube videos.

That would be cool.

Some are reporting that there is a movement away from polished videos
to ones that may not be as polished and are made for real people by
real people.

If true, it can't come soon enough. I'm soooooooo tired of pretty being
perceived as more valuable than function, simplicity, DIY, and ability
for the little guy to do. You know, I can't watch a Youtube bicycle
video without the guy mentioning how pretty his newly refurbished bike
is. With bicycles, pretty=theft_bait. And inevitably, pretty
contributes to vendor lock-in and increased expense.
