Hi Ameet! Have you tried kppp? But before that, make sure you have installed the modem drivers. If you are using internal modem, like say conexant(d-link) HSF modem, you can try to download drivers from linuxant.org or look at linmodems.org
These drivers should have a README file or an INSTALL file, where you'll find instructions for installing these drivers. I don't know much about external modem, since I don't have one. But I guess ext. modem shouldn't give much of a problem. It'll probably be already detected and properly configured by SuSE 9.1. :-) After you install the drivers as above (actually compile them!), fire up kppp or kinternet. Create an account in it (you'll know what to do, it's very simple), enter username and password, and hit the connect button. This should work, if not, and if you get errors with resolv.conf missing etc etc, go thru PLUG archieves, it has the solution to this, even I faced this problem, but it's working smooth now! :-) Finally, I must advice you to open a new thread when you ask a question, instead of replying an existing one. This way you've more chance of getting a solution! :-) > Can anyone help me? (Dont try to act too smart and > suggest like reading the (incomplete) documentation or > taking help of some 'guru'.) I am an end user and care > least abt all the technical stuff. But natural that an end user cares least about technicalities! Be it OSS or be it MS, end user will get irritated and confused if something goes wrong! Even I was very new to linux a year back, but I'm studying in IT stream so I had interest in finding solutions to problems and learning technical stuff. Not all end users want to do this. Infact, most of them don't! Probably that's why MS is where it is despite Linux being better *technically*. MS's User interface is still much better than most of the Linux distros, you have to give it to them. Why keep on saying bad words about MS, why not instead learn from what they have done to reach where they are? I believe, when it comes to UI and simple tasks like mounting cds and other stuff, MS is still better than Linux, despite WinDOS probably being crap from inside compared to Linux! Even now, vast majority of people use Win as against Lin. Why blame it only on lack of funds/awareness/willingness of people etc etc. Agreed that these are issues, but there's something to learn from MS too! Forgive me if I've put the above paragraph in a wrong thread, but there are so many threads where someone says MS is crap and Lin is best etc etc. And then there's flame... I've restrained from joining in to this waste of time till now... but it really is irritating to read abuses on a mailing list with a good purpose... If some end user is reluctant to go into technicalities, he might have his reasons. Help if you want to and if you have time, else better abstain! I apologize if I've offended someone, since probably everyone here is elder to me and much more experienced and knowledgeable...But I had to say this some time. I hope you take the right meaning. I'm just trying to put the problems where they are...
