Speeds are generally specified in bits. So the speed of modem is 56 Kilo -
bits- per- second (Kbps).
We generally measure speed during downloads in Kilo - Bytes - per - second.
(KBps)

1 Byte = 8 bits. (generally ?)

Hence if u have a 56 Kbps modem, u can get 7 KBps speed.
(Hope u have noticed the difference between 'b' and 'B').

Brace yourselves. We're about to try something that borders on the unique:
an actually rather serious technical book which is not only (gasp) vehemently
anti-Solemn, but also (shudder) takes sides. I tend to think of it as
`Constructive Snottiness.'
