Hello,

I have two PCs at home:
1. Cyrix II, 128 MB, 6 GB, SiS 6215 Display Card, Yahama Sound Card, CD
ROM, HP 670C Printer, GVC 56 KBPS External modem. It has Mandrake 9.2
installed with bare minimum configuration necessary to use the H/W and
connect to internet. This is my work horse.

2. PIV, 256 MB, 20 GB, ATI All In Wonder Display Card, Intel Board with
On board Sound Card, CD-RW/DVD Combo, GVC 56 KBPS Modem. It has
Windows 98 SE and Mandrake 10 - Dual Boot. The Linux installation is
bare minimum - to run Open Office and connect to internet. This is
more of family entertainment centre.

I want to share the Printer and the DVD/CD-RW Combo among the two
computers. I bought two Digi 5700TX (entry level) Ethernet Adapter
cards and 30 m of CAT 5 Cable with Cross Connection and installed them
in the two PC's. On both the machines the OS's (Hard Drake of Mandrake
Installation, and New Hardware Found on Win 98) found the card and I
was able to configure them on both the machines. (During
configuration, some conflict developed in the Windows Installation and
I can only boot in Safe Mode, so I am using the machine with Linux
only. Any way, that is not issue.) After a lot of trails and going
through "How To's" and some tutorials I was able to ping from one
machine to another and also could telnet from one machine to another.
I have to use "ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 (or 2) netmask 255.255.255.0
up" as root on both computers to establish networking connection.

My problem is, how do I access files in one machine from another? I
feel that I am missing something very obvious, but it is hidden from
me! I searched (Search within results) "Networking, Linux, Home, P2P,
How To" on the net, and found too many results. I did not find any
link which could help me in accessing (at least copying files from one
computer to another) one computer from another.

I would highly appreciate any pointer to what I am missing and how to
complete the networking.

Regards
Vikas Garud
