The modem and internet however is a different deal. Well actually the modem part is the problem, if yolu have external modem then setting up internet is a breeze. But alas i suppose you are having an internal linmodem. Many linmodems do work under linux but you will need some time and patience to get it to wrok, mainly because the modem vendors don't publish anything and only provide windows drivers. Neways http://www.linmodems.org is the starting point. Don't get intimidated by the unfriendly text on the site.
