The question you have asked is perhaps the most common question in the linux world.... but unfortunately it also has a common answer " its more of a persnal choice ...blah blah..."
i am daring to suggest you some distros... others plz do not flame if ur fav is not in the list. Case 1) If you have broadband Then Ubuntu is very good distro. the restricted formats are not supported out of the box, but all the required packages are available in the repositories... just apt-get (download & install - the debian way!!!) This way you get to keep control on installation and prevent it from becoming bloated. Ubuntu also boasts a huge community that makes ubuntu a bit independent of Debian- who are a bit slow to release new packages. Case 2) If ypu have broadband and KDE fan, then Kubuntu Case 3) If you have slow internet.. go for SimplyMEPIS... they have all the codecs plugins java p2p etc.... installed out of the box.... But they are too much dependent on debian and hence some packages are outdated. But overall it is a great distro. All these are single cd installations.... this i think is an advantage, so that the installations are not bloated. from your demands though I think SimplyMEPIS will be perfect for u... (although I think ubuntu is better ;-) ) HTH, Ankur -- ______________________________________________________________________ Pune GNU/Linux Users Group Mailing List: ([email protected]) List Information: http://plug.org.in/mailing-list/listinfo/plug-mail Send 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for mailing instructions.
