I'm curious about this, and this will demonstrate my need for some study of TCP-IP....With these satellite systems it seems that the talk is often about having an ISP which will support the protocol - what exactly is this called? I assume that you could do it yourself so long as you have a real, static, IP address. Could you not get your own domain, negotiate with any ISP for a dedicated line for unspecified traffic and then do the needed hardware and software in-house? I am imagining that your packets have to be modified so that the routing for returns is through the satellite.... What Linux programs are involved in this process? Is the hardware exotic (i.e. very costly)? Are there tutorials or HOWTOs that anyone can recommend on-line? Thanks, Bob - Philippine Linux Users Group.
