Yes but as Knuth said in a recent interview, on any recent hardware (P200
or more) that cycle is so fast it's almost WYSIWYG. Personally I don't use
LaTeX much anymore (the last document I did was my presentation for
Linux99 -- since LaTeX2HTML is so neat). But my setup used to be..
KDvi (comes with KDE) for viewing; it's much better-looking than xdvi
NEdit for editing (syntax highlighting is KEWL)
an xterm/rxvt/PowerShell window for typing the commands themselves..
LyX has a "view as DVI" option, too, if you're into that.
