I once used S3Trio 3D and it was PITA to configure in XFree.  Some commercial
X-servers supported it such as Xi Graphics.  I think Migs has a Linux Hardware FAQ
somewhere (try http://www.linux.org.ph), I forgot the site.  Try Trident 3D 975
AGP card, it can do 1024x768x32bit.
