Yes it does, But It depends on your distro.  If you're using XFree < 3.3.5, forget it. 
 But
3.3.5 and above does support the S3Trio3D.

I suggest that if you have the newer distros and can't get X to work, drop down
to XFree86Setup, and do it manually.  It works for me all the time.
