As I said earlier, in order to connect MS SQL to Linux, you need the
DBD::Sybase Perl module along with the FreeTDS library, or Sybase CTlib.
CTlib will work with MS SQL 6.5, but the wire protocol was changed
somewhat in MS SQL 7.0 so if you want to talk to the latter, you need
FreeTDS.
Also note that most Windows-based ODBC drivers are just ODBC-to-native
client bridges, e.g. to use the Oracle ODBC driver provided by MS with MS
Access, you still need the Oracle Net8 client.
